Description

The SWIOFC–Nairobi Convention Partnership Project Phase II (SWIOFC-NC PP2) is a regional initiative jointly implemented by the South West Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission (SWIOFC) through FAO and the Nairobi Convention through UNEP, with financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The project builds on the achievements of the first phase (2019–2023) to strengthen integrated management of coastal and marine ecosystems and fisheries across the Western Indian Ocean region. The project is being implemented in partnership with the governments of Kenya, Mozambique, and the United Republic of Tanzania. It aims to enhance coordination and collaboration between fisheries and environmental sectors while promoting the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF) and sustainable Blue Economy principles. Through capacity development, policy support, community participation, and livelihood interventions, the project seeks to improve the sustainable use, protection, and restoration of coastal and marine ecosystems. Ultimately, the project is expected to strengthen the resilience of coastal ecosystems and fishing communities, improve food security and livelihoods, conserve marine biodiversity, and promote inclusive participation of women, youth, and men in the sustainable management of marine and coastal resources across the Western Indian Ocean region.
